Travel has an impact. We say so clearly.

Travel takes you a long way, in every sense. Your flight and rental vehicle also affect the climate and local environment. Flying to Africa is usually difficult to avoid, while tourism remains an important source of income for many communities.

That is why we want you to understand the impact of your journey. As a general indication, a self-drive trip accounts for around 2,500 kilograms of CO₂ emissions per person.

DEAN brings digital education and tree planting together.

One way to contribute is through DEAN, the Digital Education Africa Network. The organisation supports digital education in East Africa by providing equipment, teacher training and workshops that help children understand their influence on the environment around them.

During practical school days, children plant trees around their school. Digital skills, environmental awareness and visible action come together in one place.

How CO2 offsetting through DEAN works.

A practical day at school

Based on the current information, a practical training day costs around €400. During the day, approximately thirty children plant fifty trees together and learn about environmental awareness.

Contributing for your journey

As a general indication, a mature tree can absorb around 22 kilograms of CO₂ per year. The actual amount varies depending on the tree species, age and growing conditions. For a self-drive trip, a rough estimate is around ten to twenty trees per person. How much CO₂ is actually absorbed depends on the trees and the period over which it is calculated.

A certificate for your contribution

You can contribute any amount. DEAN provides a certificate showing how much CO2 your contribution is intended to offset.

Conscious travel starts with an honest look.
