Every Selfdrive4x4 rental includes standard insurance. For additional protection, you can choose our Full Cover option, which reduces your financial risk andprovides cover for several types of damage that are often excluded fromstandard rental insurance.

Driving a 4x4 in Africa is different from driving at home. Gravel roads, loose stones, wildlife and remote areas are all part of the journey.
Standard rental insurance provides a good basic level of protection, but certain types of damage may be excluded and the excess can be substantial. Full Cover is designed to provide additional protection where standard cover stops.

Extra reassurance when you rent a 4x4.
Windscreen damage, tyres, underbody damage and single vehicle incidents are examples of risks that may not be fully covered under a standard rental agreement.
Our Full Cover option provides broader protection and reduces the amount you may have to pay yourself if something happens to the vehicle.
Full Cover can be added to both standalone 4x4 rentals and complete Selfdrive4x4 trips that include a rental vehicle.
Clarity before you leave.
Insurance conditions differ between rental companies and destinations. That is why we make the applicable cover clear before you book. Your quotation and booking documents show the standard excess, the reduced excess with Full Cover and the most important conditions and exclusions. This means you know what is covered before you collect your 4x4.
Standard Cover or Full Cover.
Every rental includes Standard Cover. This provides the basic insurance applicable to your rental vehicle.
Full Cover offers additional protection. Depending on the vehicle and local rentalpartner, it can reduce your excess, extend the types of damage covered and reduce the deposit required when collecting the vehicle.
We recommend Full Cover for travellers who want to minimise their financial exposure during their self drive journey.

Every Selfdrive4x4 rental includes Standard Cover. The excess is a maximum of €3,500 per incident and is lower for most vehicles. For broader protection, you can choose Full Cover. Full Cover covers several risks that are normally excluded and reduces your excess to a maximum of €500 or, depending on the vehicle and destination, €0.
Travel insurance covers personal travel related risks and is separate from the insurance of your rental vehicle. For your 4x4, Selfdrive4x4 offers Standard Cover and optional Full Cover. We do not offer separate travel insurance or excess reimbursement insurance.
We do not offer separate excess reimbursement insurance. Standard Cover is included with every rental, with the option to add Full Cover for broader protection and a significantly lower excess.
Travel insurance is separate from the insurance of your rental vehicle and is not offered by Selfdrive4x4. We strongly recommend arranging suitable travel insurance for your journey separately. Your 4x4 is covered by the Standard Cover included with your rental, or by Full Cover if you choose this additional protection..
You do not need to arrange separate insurance for your rental vehicle. Standard Cover is always included with your Selfdrive4x4 rental. If you want broader protection and a significantly lower excess, you can choose Full Cover.
