Where the road runs alongside water again.

Rundu lies on the banks of the Kavango River in northern Namibia. The town is the capital of the Kavango region and has around 44,500 inhabitants.

For your self-drive Namibia, Rundu mainly has a practical role. You can refuel, stock up thoroughly and eat something before driving on. If you are heading towards the Caprivi Strip afterwards, this is a good moment to top up supplies one more time.

At the local market you will find handmade wood carvings from the region. Just off the main road and in between the stalls.

Off the road for a while, onto the water.

The Kavango runs right past Rundu. Several accommodations organise boat trips on the river. A chance to see the surroundings through something other than the windscreen for once.

Back in town you can choose from various places to eat or have a drink. After that the next stage awaits. For many routes it continues towards the Caprivi Strip.

Rundu is therefore not a place that calls for a full schedule. It is above all a stop that can come at exactly the right moment.
