Pilanesberg National Park lies around the extinct volcano of the same name. The park sits exactly on the transition between the dry Kalahari and the wetter vegetation of the Lowveld.
That transition brings variety in landscape and wildlife. On a game drive you may come across elephants, buffalo, leopards, wild dogs, rhinos and various antelope.
Plenty happens above you as well. More than 360 bird species live in Pilanesberg. Several hides are spread across the park, where you can watch and photograph in peace.
The volcano is quiet. The park is not.
