Khowarib lies in north-western Namibia, where Damaraland meets Kaokoland. The gorge cuts through a dry mountain landscape and follows the Hoanib riverbed.

Khowarib Gorge is around 25 kilometres long. Sand, rock walls and narrow passages make the area rewarding to explore on foot or in a 4x4.

Khowarib Lodge sits beside the riverbed, around 30 kilometres south of Sesfontein, with views towards the gorge cliffs.

On foot, the gorge slows everything down.

From Khowarib, you can walk into the gorge. Rock walls, valleys and the riverbed naturally change the pace.

A small dam and waterfall also lie in the area. The water attracts birdlife and brings pockets of green into an otherwise dry landscape.

Parts of the canyon can also be explored by 4x4. Soft sand and steep rocky sections call for steady driving and attention to the terrain.
