Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest wildlife park and lies in the north-east of the country. It is easy to reach from Victoria Falls or Botswana.
Tracks and roads run throughout the park. In your own 4x4, you can make self-drive game drives and decide where to stop for longer.
Viewing platforms give you another way to watch the landscape and wildlife.
Grassland gives way to Mopane woodland.
Hwange combines grassland with Mopane woodland, and the vegetation changes across different parts of the park.
More than 100 mammal species and around 400 bird species live across these landscapes.
Elephants, buffalo and giraffe are among the larger animals you may see. Hippos live in the water at Masuma Dam, while lions and leopards are also regularly seen.
Sometimes the night brings the next sighting.
Hyenas are regularly seen at night around Robin’s Camp. Staying inside the park keeps you close to what happens after the day’s driving is done.
Hwange has several rest camps, campsites and lodges. Robin’s Camp, Kapula Tented Camp, Silwane Camp and Main Camp are among the places to stay.
That makes it easy to pause your Zimbabwe trip inside the park before the next game drive begins.
