Ghanzi sits in the dry Kalahari along the A3, a dusty town with shops and supermarkets.
It is often referred to as the capital of the Kalahari. You can stop briefly for fuel and supplies, or take a little more time to walk through town.
Ghanzi also sits on the route towards Namibia and works as a base for the Kalahari and Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
Just outside town, the route takes on another layer.
Dqae Qare Game Farm lies just outside Ghanzi. The farm is owned and run by the San.
It is a social enterprise that supports the local San D’Kar community through employment. The project has also played an important role in preserving San culture.
A visit gives you time to learn about San culture and way of life. Staying overnight at Dqae Qare is also possible.
A practical stop that can become more than that.
Ghanzi works well as a stop on a longer route through Botswana or towards Namibia. Restock, refuel and continue when you are ready.
