Rock formations that make you slow down.

The Cederberg is a mountain range in the Western Cape. Sharp peaks, deep ravines and striking rock formations give the landscape its rough character.

Wolfberg Arch, Wolfberg Cracks and Maltese Cross are names that keep appearing on the map. Together, they show how strongly rock and elevation shape this part of South Africa.

Snow can cover the mountains in winter. Summers are warm and dry, while winters are cool and wet.

Thousands of years of history on the rock.

San rock paintings, thousands of years old, can be found across the Cederberg region, including in the Cederberg Heritage Site.

The mountain range is also a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Fynbos grows here alongside endemic plant and animal species. The Cederberg Mountain Zebra and Cape Leopard are among the animals associated with the area.

The Cederberg has hiking routes for different levels. Longer and shorter walks lead to places such as Wolfberg Cracks, Wolfberg Arch, Maltese Cross, Stadsaal Caves and Maalgat.

Climbing and mountain biking also suit the rocky terrain. Around Ceres, vineyards sit alongside agricultural land producing fruit and olives.
