Aus lies where the desert and the dunes of Namib Naukluft Park meet. The village has around 300 inhabitants and is surrounded by rocky hills.

The landscape changes within a relatively small area. Karoo, desert and Nama-Karoo come together here, supporting many different flowers and plants. After rain, the surroundings take on noticeably more colour.

The area around Aus is known for its wild desert horses. They have adapted to the heat and dry conditions of this landscape.

Around 20 kilometres from Aus lies the Garub waterhole. The horses come here to drink, making it a clear point to stop along the route and see what appears.
