Semonkong literally means ‘Place of Smoke’.The name refers to the mist that can hang around Maletsunyane Falls as theriver drops 192 metres into the gorge.
The village lies in a remote part of MaseruDistrict, at around 2,275 metres in the Maluti Mountains.
