Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls are easy to incorporate in most 4×4 trips across Southern Africa. Visit Matopos, Hwange, and Mana Pools National Parks.
Self-Drive Zimbabwe. This stunning country locked in between Zambia, Mozambique, Botswana, and South Africa is a fantastic self-drive destination. Many 4×4 travellers ask us if it’s safe to go to Zimbabwe. The answer is yes, Zimbabwe is a good self-drive destination for the more adventurous traveller. Zimbabwe knows beautiful wildlife reserves, such as Mana Pools, Hwange, and Matusadona National Parks, the last bordering Lake Kariba. You can choose to follow the main roads, or go on a more adventurous trip deep through the communal lands. On the more isolated tracks, for example to Ghonarezou, other self-drive travellers will be a rarity.
Starting a self-drive trip in South Africa (Johannesburg) gives you the option to visit the northern part of Kruger National Park, or the travel through Mapungubwe National Park.
Self-drive 4×4 rental cars are available in Harare (Zimbabwe’s capital), but many travellers choose to start from Johannesburg, South Africa.
