Golden Gate Highlands National Park
Sandstone formations and vast grasslands characterize Golden Gate Highlands National Park. When the sun shines on them in the afternoon, the formations take on a special golden glow, which gives the park its name. The park was established in 1963 to protect the cliffs.
The park is ideal for hiking with beautiful views. From shorter tours to an impressive two-day trail. The nice thing about this park is that it is still relatively undiscovered. This way you can easily run times without meeting other travelers.
It is also possible to visit the park with a 4×4 car. This way you can drive past the various viewpoints and go on a small game drive. The park is home to roe deer, white-tailed wildebeest, mountain reedbuck, jackals, bearded vultures, black eagles and steppe eagles.
Another nice attraction is the open-air museum in the park. The Basotho Cultural Village is a replica village of the Basotho tribe where actors reenact life. Fun and educational to take a look here! You can also spend the night there. Other accommodation options include Glen Reenen Rescamp and the Highlands Mountain Retreat.
