Mvuu Camp and Lodge
Located in the wildlife-rich Liwonde National Park, on the banks of the Shire River, Mvuu Camp offers an authentic safari atmosphere. “Mvuu” means hippopotamus in the local Chichewa language — a fitting name, as hippos and elephants are regularly seen passing by the camp along the river. This is safari in its purest form: intimate, personal and surrounded by nature.
Mvuu Camp perfectly blends comfort with a genuine bush experience. You stay in spacious safari tents or chalets with en-suite bathrooms and a private veranda overlooking the river or surrounding wilderness. The central lodge, with its open-air restaurant and swimming pool, faces the water and provides the perfect place to relax between activities.
During your stay, a variety of safari activities are available. Explore Liwonde on a 4×4 game drive, enjoy a boat safari along the Shire River, or head out on foot with an experienced ranger. Liwonde is known for its high concentration of elephants, hippos and crocodiles, as well as its rich birdlife. Lions, leopards and black rhinos can also be found here.
Each chalet is a charming blend of stone and canvas, featuring a private bathroom and a small veranda overlooking the river. The camp also offers a restaurant, a children’s playground and a large swimming pool.
