Namaqua National Park
Flowers by day, stars by night… A wild Atlantic Ocean on the coast!
A landscape covered in wildflowers, a starry sky stretching as far as the eye can see and a luxury tent with a spectacular view. If this experience isn’t on your bucket list, it should be now. Stay at Beach Flower Camp or Skilpad Flower Camp.
In early August and September, seemingly overnight, the dusty valleys of Namaqualand are transformed into a wonderland, covered in wildflowers that attract visitors from all over the country and abroad. Wildlife-wise, you’ll find seals and dolphins on the coast. Inland, bigger game such as Gemsbok, Springbok and Red Hartebeest.
Inland, visitors can make use of sedans or 2×4 vehicles, but to get the most out of their visit and the park, they’ll need a 4×4. Especially if you want to drive the Caracal 4×4 Trail, for example. Or if you want to stay on the coast where a 4×4 vehicle is essential.
Fuel for vehicles and ATMs are available in the nearby town of Springbok (87km away); not in the park itself.
Accommodations:
- Chalets (Skilpad Restcamp)
- Coastal Campsites (Groenrivier section)
Within the Namaqua National Park there are several locations. In the northern part the Skilpad Restcamp. In the southern “Coastal” part of the park you will find for example the Skuinsbaai Noord Campsite.
