Marloth Nature Reserve

The Marloth Nature Reserve is a beautiful nature reserve near Swellendam in the Western Cape. It is known for its pristine fynbos, indigenous forests, and various hiking trails leading to waterfalls, mountain peaks, and clear rock pools. The reserve, covering 14,123 hectares, is managed in partnership with 16,532 hectares of privately owned land and is a World Heritage Site.

Hiking

Several walks are available in the Marloth Nature Reserve. The (steep) climb to Twaaluurkop, one of the reserve’s peaks, is highly recommended. In addition to this walk, there are also shorter hikes with less elevation gain, such as the Duivelsbos Trail and the Plaatloop Trail.

Swellendam

The Marloth Nature Reserve is located near the charming town of Swellendam. Swellendam is the third oldest city in South Africa and boasts many interesting cultural and historical sights. You’ll also find several restaurants here.
