Spitzkoppe (Erongo)
From far away the granite rock peaks rise above the plains of Damaraland. Closer by, the campsites disappear between the rock. And as the sun goes down, the light on the rocks changes again.

Granite rising above the plain.
The 1,728-metre-high Spitzkoppe rises from the open plains of Damaraland. Around the granite inselberg lies the Pondok mountain range. Together the rock formations create a landscape you see coming from a great distance.
Spitzkoppe lies on the route between Swakopmund and Twyfelfontein, which makes it a logical stop during a self-drive Namibia.
Once you arrive you can leave the 4x4 behind and continue on foot. Walk among the rocks or look at the ancient paintings at Bushman’s Paradise.
As the sun goes down, the rocks change with it.
At the end of the day it is worth finding a spot higher up on the rocks. As the sun sets, the light changes across Spitzkoppe and the surrounding plain.
After that you do not have far to go. The campsites are spread between different rock formations and give you plenty of space around your spot.
